A gate that needs lifting, pushing or unbolting every time you leave the driveway soon becomes more than a small inconvenience. Can your existing gate be automated?

A professional survey should establish the gate’s weight, width, height and construction, along with the available space around it. A motor with excess capacity is not automatically better. What matters is selecting quality equipment that can move the gate consistently without strain, then setting the force, travel limits and speed correctly.
Make safety part of the design
An automated gate should protect people, pets, vehicles and the gate itself. Safety is not an optional extra added at the end of a job. It needs to be planned into the system from the beginning.
Photocells are a key feature. These sensors create an invisible beam across the opening and prevent the gate from closing when a person, car or object is in the way. Depending on the layout, extra photocells may be required inside the driveway or around areas where a gate leaf could create a trapping point.
Safety edges can be fitted to the leading edge of a gate. If the edge meets an obstruction, it signals the operator to stop or reverse. Solar-powered automation can be an attractive option where running a cable would be difficult. It can work very well for gates with moderate use and good sun exposure.
